Statement: For
immediate release
The organisers of Seksualiti Merdeka
condemn the Malaysian government’s
use of the penal code 377, an archaic, discriminatory and
legally unsound law,
which criminalises consensual sexual relations between adults. Sexual
relations
between two consenting adults is a private matter. The state, as
well as both state and non-state actors, should not interfere in
consensual sexual relations between two adults.
We are
non-partisan. Our only concern is for the protection and
promotion of the human rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexual, queer (LGBTIQ) community in
Malaysia. The
current persecution of Anwar Ibrahim using this law has
created an atmosphere of fear amongst
sexual minorities and further promotes stigmatisation,
discrimination, violence and hate speech towards
us. Malaysian citizens should not be made collateral damage
in the government’s political game.
Over the last few decades, many countries including former British colonies and many Asian nations have already repealed similar laws. In fact, countries which still retain such laws are in the minority. If Malaysia wishes to be counted among civillised nations, it needs to advance its progress in promoting humanity by establishing and strengthening the Malaysian legal system to champion justice and equality for all Malaysians.
Ban
Ki Moon, the Secretary General of the United
Nations in 2010 pledged support and encouraged the
decriminalization of homosexuality. Malaysia,
as a member of the Human Rights Council, should therefore not be
using Section 377 of the Penal Code
to persecute Malaysians. Human rights are universal and must
never be
held hostage by the political agenda of any government or ruling
power. Our discourse on cultural values must not privilege one group's
culture over another and we must recognise the larger culture of
our shared humanity.
We therefore call upon the Malaysian government to
repeal the Penal Code 377a, 377b and 377d which criminalise
consensual sexual
relations between adults.

I'm sorry to say this,
But i decided to follow up with Seksualiti Merdeka because i also wanted to fight for freedom choice of sexuality. Seksualiti Merdeka used to be discussing generally on sexuality but now i realized it is more to politics. Fighting the government. Making up rally.
And about this post, it's like a guy raping a guy. There's nothing wrong about taking legal action onto it.
You might want to fight for Anwar because you think he's gay, eventhough he never actually admit that. And you also did not know whether he will support Seksualiti Merdeka openly like how your members do.
Just stating up my view.
@Nia, I can't speak for Seksualiti Merdeka but I do not agree that they are turning towards politics.
The point here is to call for the repeal of sodomy law which clearly is a violation of basic human rights. If we take the law by its word, all sodomy must be persecuted. Question: Has any consenting male-female couple been brought to court under the same charges?
If it is rape, call it rape. If the guy claimed to be raped by Anwar, then fine, sue him for raping. But not because he engaged in anal sex.
And no, it is not about fighting for Anwar (regardless of his sexuality, open or not). It is about basic human rights. If a 'civilian' is being charged under the same law, I believe (strongly) that Seksuality Merdeka will stand up for him too.
What is freedom actually? What is Human rights?
Freedom is supposed to be freedom from animalistic disenchanted desires which are against human nature. In Bahasa, Freedom from Hawa Nafsu.
Human rights?? Is it human to engage in Anal sex? The anal itself is not designed for any inward penetration.
Cammon laaaa stop this LGBT mumbo jumbo. Why do you guys look up so high to Western culture? Look at europe now. One of the reasons for their decline population is declining because of this LGBT laa... apart from free sex, feminism n other crap.
And stop associating Anwar with LGBT. Perasan aaaa you all nie
whats so good about penetrating others ass? and whats is the good of seeing women making love with other woman? is there anything wrong with that? YES!!! everything about that is totally wrong... it is against nature law... and against every religion believe... if you guys don't satisfy of malaysian and the other countries laws regarding your rights, go create your own country elsewhere.... we don't need people like you here..
Aunty Western,
Oh good, if that's your logic, Africa has too high population and about 900million people starve every year, and they don't respect human rights or feminist movement and they kill gays and lesbians, so that's a good example we should follow? Good one!
u said it aunty!
yes, Malaysia need a change in the view of LGBT community. I support Seksualiti Merdeka !!!
